The wharf at Rio Tinto Aluminium’s Yarwun alumina refinery experienced vibrations during bauxite delivery. The wharf was scheduled for duplication and, due to these vibrations, concerns about the fatigue performance were expressed.
After consideration of access and occupational health
and safety restrictions, Texcel collaborated with Bechtel
Australia to understand the issues and develop a strategy
to monitor the in-service performance of the wharf.
Bechtel
utilised the monitoring results, in the form of the wharf’s
dynamic response to operational events, to dismiss the fatigue
concerns and open the way for the duplication.
